High schools with tennis programs include strength and conditioning exercises to develop aerobic and anaerobic capacity, strength, flexibility and speed. Strength training, cardio training, agility training, and stretching routines are part of the curriculum. Morning practice and weekend tournaments are also likely to be part of the program.
High school tennis in Canada has grown immensely over the past years. The opportunities for Canadian students to participate in tennis are growing with an increasing number of schools providing tennis programs. This sport allows for easy set-up and instruction in all school environments and facilities. Aside from participating in competitive tennis, this sport fulfills a number of the requirements for physical education. Students develop various physical and mental skills while playing this sport. Tennis schools offer a chance for students to play in both an individual (singles) and a team sport (doubles). Playing tennis increases student knowledge and appreciation for the sport.
