International Baccalaureate
This Programme was initiated by the International Baccalaureate Organization—an educational foundation established in 1968 in Geneva. It’s available in schools around the world, including private schools in Poland.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a two-year high school curriculum. It is carried out entirely in English, French, or Spanish and ends with the matriculation examination. The IB Diploma is an extremely prestigious achievement, recognized by the best universities in the world.
Schools with the IB Programme are a great solution not only for foreign but also Polish students. They guarantee the best knowledge of the language, which will certainly prove to be a very significant asset in the future.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is part of the IB continuum, and is one of the most popular high school programs in Poland. It takes the form of a two-year course that ends with matura exams. It is carried out in high school in English, French, or Spanish. Students are required to complete six thematic courses: Primary language and Literature, Second Language, Social Sciences, Science, Mathematics, and Arts. Three or four of them must be passed at the advanced level. The obligatory element of the exam is an essay of up to 4000 words and theoretical exams. In addition, two projects and 50 hours of community service are also mandatory.
Schools with the IB Programme
Schools with IB can be found in 157 countries around the world, and the number of such institutions (the latest data as of September 3, 2019) is 6,812.
In Poland, IB schools operate mainly in larger cities, mostly private schools. The IB Programme has been operating in Poland since 1993 and is currently implemented by 53 schools.
Some IB schools are in Gdańsk, which offers the international IB exam in one of its institutions. It’s worth remembering that the IB Programme is not easy and requires a lot of work from students. Good academic performance is essential to enable the best students to enter the class with IB. Joining the IB Programme requires regularity, dedication and, above all, enthusiasm and willingness to expand one’s knowledge.
Schools with an international IB program are also located in Gdynia, where students have the opportunity to join a course that will allow them to develop their creative thinking, individual ability, while ensuring comprehensive knowledge in various fields. It’s a program tailored to individual needs, because the students themselves choose what subjects they want to pursue at the advanced level, and thus, gain much more extensive knowledge in them. The offer includes all six groups of subjects: studies in language and literature (mother tongue), language acquisition (English, French, German, Russian), individuals and society (history, geography, philosophy), sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), mathematics, and the arts.
