The search for a suitable nursery or preschool usually starts from the area surrounding your residence. Useful in this regard are all kinds of informations, including friend recommendations, advertising banners, and popular Google maps. From nursery school websites, you can learn about how the nursery works in practice, what the fees are, and how the child welfare system works. This type of research allows you to choose a few options and take a closer look at them. You can find private nursery schools in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław, Łódź, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, and Rzeszów.
Legal regulations
Care for children up to three years is subject to special legal regulations in Poland. Any place offering childcare must be in the registry of nurseries and children's clubs. Places entered into this registry have periodic inspections, which guarantees that children will be safe and under the care of properly educated staff.
Visiting nurseries
In choosing a specific Poland nursery, an important element is a personal visit to the institution. During the visit, attention should be paid to aspects such as the conditions of the building, what the daily schedule is, and how children interact and learn in the classroom.
Teachers and staff
You should also ask about the education and experience of employed caregivers. It’s worth checking if the staff underwent a first aid course. Important questions affecting the quality of childcare include whether children have a separate place for naps, whether there’s catering in the nursery or they have their own kitchen, and how often children go outside.
The environment of nursery schools
An extremely important issue is also the general atmosphere in the nursery school. The mood prevailing in this type of place should be joyful, and the employees nice and friendly. The most important thing is that children like the environment and their teachers. If the little ones are smiling and like to go to a nursery, this is the best sign.
How much does nursery school cost?
It’s not true that a public nursery or preschool is always cheaper than a private one. Fees related to a child's stay in a nursery school are usually divided into those related to childcare and food. Additional costs may include contributions to the Parents' Council, additional activities and field trips, and cost of diapers and wipes (if applicable).
In larger cities in Poland (such as Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Łódź, Poznań, and Gdańsk), the total fee for a child's stay in a private nursery or crèche is around $8,000 to $12,000 a year. In smaller towns, fees for private nurseries tend to be much cheaper. For those who work part-time, or run their own businesses, it is a good idea to buy passes or tickets for part-time childcare.
These can be morning or afternoon passes. In some private facilities, it’s possible to have your child taken care of on non-working days. Prices paid by parents and guardians for a private nursery are largely subject to the laws of the market. If the private nursery meets the requirements set by a given organization, then it can receive co-financing. Thanks to this, prices for a private nursery can be comparable to those in public nurseries.
Language nurseries
An interesting option to consider is sending a toddler to a bilingual nursery, thanks to which the child will have contact with a foreign language from the earliest months of life. Teachers speaking fluently in a foreign language and native-speakers work in this type of facility. Children listen to the language and learn the first words. The most popular language nurseries are bilingual, Polish-English schools. This is because nurseries are often combined with kindergartens, where children can begin to attend at the appropriate age.
