Facts about preschools in Warsaw
Private, non-public, and public preschools in Warsaw, Poland follow similar guidelines. They also tend to have similar aims. We cover some of the main points of interest below.
Age range
Warsaw preschools most commonly are for children aged 3 to 6, though many are open to younger kids as well. At age 6, the so-called zero year (Zerowka) is compulsory. The zero year (or grade zero) is meant to ease the transition from preschool to elementary (or primary) school. This year can be completed in a preschool or primary school.
The school day
Preschools in Warsaw, and across Poland, must have at least five hours of teaching and care per day. Many, though, are open nine hours a day, with morning and afternoon care available.
Class sizes
Children are grouped by age, with no more than 25 kids per class. In special education classes, or classes with one or more kids with special needs, 20 is the maximum.
Skills learned
Private and non-public preschools in Warsaw promote your child’s development. They also prepare your child for the school years that lay ahead. They achieve this by cultivating some basic skills and traits:
- Self-awareness
- Awareness of one’s environment
- Practical skills
- Social and emotional skills
Academics
Preschools and nurseries in Warsaw cover a wide range of academic subjects. While there’s some variation, most preschools in Warsaw cover all or most of the following subjects:
- Language
- Reading
- Writing
- Math
- Science
- Art
Assessment
The Ministry of National Education in Poland doesn’t require academic assessment of kids at the preschool level. The only evaluation done before elementary (or primary) school is of health and overall physical and social development. This helps to identify children with special needs.
